BOATING SAFETY

Ohio boating laws are enforceable on all waters of the state including private waterways. Boaters should consult official marine charts before navigating Lake Erie’s waters, particularly around the islands. Boaters should also pay close attention to weather reports, as conditions on Lake Erie can change very quickly. Daily marine forecasts and local weather reports are available at the following:

National Weather Service Marine Radio

VHF-FM 162.40 MHZ (WX2)

Lake Erie is the shallowest of the Great Lakes and stirs up quickly in inclement weather. Storms that move across the lake are infamous for catching boaters by surprise with rolling, often choppy waves. Never wait until the last minute to head for safe harbor.
